The Bottom Line

Current AI systems can read and write hundreds to thousands of times faster than we can and they're only getting better. We need to act accordingly.

I've done a ton of experimentation over the last year and here are my GOs and NOGOs with AI.

GOs

Research

Tools like the Research feature in Claude are great at reading hundreds of articles about a topic and giving you a quick summary. In 10-20 minutes I can get a basic understanding of any topic. It gets me to action faster. I don't need to spend weeks on research or worry about not having contacts in my network that can teach me things.

Code/Web/Tool Development

As long as I can describe what kind of tool I need AI does a good enough job at building to get me a working prototype. Sometimes this is all I need.

Strategic Thinking

Help with goal setting, quarterly or yearly planning. It gives me options and context I wouldn't have had otherwise.

Creative Writing Details

Researching specific details like the name of a snake or what part of the brain my scifi device should hook into.

Tech Articles

I'll sometimes ask an AI to make sure my verb tenses and POV are consistent throughout the piece.

NOGOs

Creative Writing for Others

Good writing is about injecting each sentence with life. This requires care and AI systems don't care.

Email/Account Access

This is a slippery slope.

First Draft Writing

For the same reason I wouldn't ask an AI to have an orgasm for me.
